Simple Sauteed Vegetables in Butter

I eat vegetables now for health reasons. Jan eats them because he was trained to. Nonetheless, vegetables still aren’t the easiest to eat on a regular basis because we’ve gotten so used to the naturally rich flavor of meat. Season pork with salt and you’re up for a tasty treat but vegetables are oh so hard to add flavor to.

Surprisingly, this all vegetable dish is an absolute champ in the flavor category.

Ingredients:

2 potatoes, sliced in strips
1 carrot, sliced in strips
5 pieces Baguio beans, cut in halves
1 bell pepper, quartered
1 onion, quartered
1/2 tsp. peppermill
1 tbsp. sesame seeds
1 bouillon cube
Cut of butter
Sesame oil

Procedure:

1. Cook sesame seeds in a dry pan until slightly brown. Set aside.

2. Melt butter in a pan.

3. Add bouillon cube, potatoes and carrots and cook for 2 minutes or less.

4. Add bell pepper and onions and cook for a minute.

5. Add peppermill and sesame seeds. Drizzle with sesame oil. Serves one.

Wife’s Verdict:

I feel we might have cheated with the boullion cube but that’s almost like adding natural broth to perk up the taste. In any case, it worked. The sweet, salty taste was all I could ask for in a vegetable dish. The aroma of the sesame oil made it even more inviting. I definitely don’t need to add pork into this.

Jan’s Mission in Life: Bring more vegetables into the family.
